Creative blocks and limited availability
October 13, 2016
There are times when my creative flow feels like it gets muddied up. I can try to push through it but my design work and art just ends up being extremely mediocre. I get frustrated and moody trying to bend these molecules of light into a visually stunning and appealing story. Photographs should draw you in and make you feel something. A mood, a sensation, a glimpse into a moment. Capturing those elements when you are feeling blocked or your mind is elsewhere doesn't work out very well.
I am in the process of working on a shoot right now and getting my groove has taken a lot of work. I had to spend months reworking the story board and shoot plans. Each outfit and background ended up being scrapped for something different because I just wasn't inspired.
The change of seasons usually waxes and wanes a bit on my sensitivities. I can be extra tired and go into hibernation mode. Staying cozy by the fireplace with the dog and crockpot cooking while working on projects keeps me happy.
I have had limited availability and that will continue as I focus on other business ventures. I prefer to only see a couple of clients per week. That keeps me happy and avoids burn out. I can be far more attentive by staying low profile and enjoying your company. I am not looking to get rich and meet a lot of people. I prefer to offer an outstanding experience to a select few folks who appreciate me as much as I appreciate them.
